Hehe: I came back, and isn't Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fun?

Hello. I haven't been posting on here very much lately (school and Spanish and math and stuff and things that seem to come along as part of being me happened) and I've missed it. It's weird: when I sit down to write I don't write the way I feel or am thinking: I edit before I ever start, and it makes all my writing (especially on this blog, because that's the way it is) well, I don't know the word. ...Maybe you do; if you do could you please tell me? My brain has gone blank and I can't think: all help would be appreciated.

So...Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (wow, that takes a long time to write out, not as long to say though, that is, not as long when you're saying all that S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for) happened. AWESOMENESS AND HAPPINESS AND FUN. I kind of like it; just a little bit. Are you watching it? How do you like it so far? I'm a wee bit behind, having seen up to episode three don't tell me any spoilers, please! But - shucks - aren't they cool?! I mean, really, what a nice team the son of Coul got together. And isn't Lola precious?
Humm...episodes one, two, and three...the pilot was very good. The acting is great, the scrip seems to be awesome in general so far - and leaving plenty of things to be followed out in new episodes - and it's just funny [Gramsie?]. The characters are all so different and interesting, and together they're quite the team; but, gosh! they are cool. I do want to learn Krav Maga, I wonder what kind of fighting S.H.I.E.L.D. agent's are taught?

It's late and I've been getting up at 5:30 am for some reason the last few weeks [mesa sleepy]...good night.

  1. I've been watching Agents of SHIELD, and "fun" is definitely the word I'd use to describe it! I have a blast watching it even though I don't think it's the best-made show. Still hoping for more improvement in that area. But it is... so funny and contagiously fun and I love how original each plot is!

    1. I'm glad you enjoy it too! :)
Okay, so I was wondering - you review a lot of movies on your blog and do a great job of it, I think - what do you look for in a movie or TV series or short or whatever to judge the quality and all by? I love movies, especially as a way to tell stories, but more than enjoy them and think about the plot and characters I don't really know much at all about reviewing 'em.
A thought just popped into my head, what if you did a post on your blog about what you look for in movies and such? You don't have to, obviously, but if you did I'm sure it'd be great! :)

    2. Thanks very much for the complement! :) That's a very good question, and it has a pretty complicated answer. (This may get long...) Because that's actually why I started reviewing movies in the first place -- to figure out why I liked them, or why I didn't, or what it is that I think makes a movie good. Typically for judging the quality I look for what I consider to be good acting, and good writing and directing -- interesting characters, unique plots, even storytelling, themes, etc. -- and comedies have to make me laugh, and action movies have to be exciting, and I love artistic cinematography. It's all very opinionated though, I couldn't say why an actor's performance was good except that it was convincing to me.

And just because the quality's good doesn't mean I'll like the movie. I'd appreciate it, but in order to love it, I have to connect with it, and that's something I can't exactly put my finger on. I think most the movies I love have characters I can identify with, and feel for and cheer for. And it's hard to have great characters without good acting, writing and directing!

So if you can say what you liked about a particular plot or character or the way a story was told, then you really don't need to know anything more to be able to review it! To me, reviewing movies is all about personal opinion -- the trick is to present it as fact. ;) Anyways, I hope somewhere in all that I managed to answer your question. You really got me thinking too, I'd never really thought about this before. I probably could make a blog post about it too, so I'll definitely keep that in mind, thanks for the suggestion!

    3. Thanks so much, Sarah! :) That's VERY helpful, thanks for taking the time to write it all down! :) I'm going to be rereading that comment a lot...
      Thanks! :)

    4. You're welcome! I'm so glad I could be helpful! :)

  2. I have really been enjoying Agents of SHIELD; anything to get more of Coulson!! :D Syke annoys me but other then that I think it's a great show! I'm really excited to see where the rest of the season takes us.

Also, I know the feeling you describe about not being able to write; for me (and this might not work for you) I ended up having to take a rather unintentional break from consistent blogging and do other things to refresh my mind. Just to do other fun stuff; I ended up feeling more invigorated having new things to discuss or share that I had found on the Internet or had done during the summer. I don't know if this helps but I thought I'd share. :)

    1. Yes! Isn't Coulson great?! :) Sky annoyed me in the first episode but I've gotten used to her...I kind of like her now, though I'm not sure....

Well, thanks for the advice! I'm glad it worked for you! :) My problem though isn't so much that I can't write but that when I do it's always got a kind of accent (and always has) it's not exactly a problem, but it annoys me sometimes and I want to learn to write without it; though I do like it sometimes. :)

  3. I am glad to hear that you are enjoying Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, I love it! I am so happy to have Whedon on TV again and being as awesome as ever. The next episodes are even better, at least in my opinion. Having Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D on TV is almost like having a mini-Marvel movie every week, it is just awesome!
Also a tip about typing "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" quickly: Since I have to say it a lot in my reviews, I either spell it without the periods or copy it to my clipboard and use control V to quick paste it. :)

    1. Yes, exactly! A mini marvel movie once a week: how delightful! :)
I do copy and use control V (thanks for the tip anyway though) but it still takes a moment or two for me to type it out the first time! I guess writing it without periods would work....
I'm glad to hear you like the next episodes...I just recently saw 4 and didn't really care for it but I'm looking forward to the next episodes after it! :)
